Well, this is not “low budget,” but I think you’ll find you get A LOT for your money…because there’s a Bigger Picture involved here. The owner is Kirti Shah, and you will find recommendations on his site from Mark Holland and Peter Phippen. I bought about 8 fine flutes and a couple ‘old or vintage flutes’ and some bamboo to make my own. Guendola, I can vouch for One World Trading fine flutes. Kirti does a nice job and I think is fair. Several folks here have ordered from One World Trading. I even tried ebay, but I don’t really trust ebay sellers for goods that I can’t inspect before buying, and what I found so far were mostly fipple bansuris and some cheap 10$ flutes which are probably out of question. Of course other suggestions are welcome too. Well, does anyone know if there is a working communications channel, and – what is even more important at the moment – does he (Ram Ashish) ship to Europe and accept something as easy as paypal or credit card for payment? These flutes have a nice sound, have been recommended elsewhere and for idealistic reasons, I like to buy from the lower end of the food chain where possible and Josh Geisler’s flutes, as nice as his funding project is, are beyond my budget. I am also trying to contact Ram Ashish, a flutemaker who is promoting on but so far, I couldn’t establish contact, it is theoretically made via the same website (not run by Ram Ashish) and I got the impression that nobody ever reads incoming messages, I even tried to contact the webmaster after a few weeks. One World Trading seems to be an option, they offer “fine flutes” which are quite exactly in my price range. And – this might sound silly – it should be a bamboo flute, no plastic and no glossy varnish, only traditional oiling.

“low budget” means “as good as possible for about 50 to 75 USD”.

Over the last few weeks, I am trying to locate online shops for reasonably good low budget bansuris.
